Dominion Partners develops and operates senior living facilities which help retirees live safely and independently in style.
The Somerby Senior Living facilities offer high-end apartments, dining, and activities to residents who want to live their golden years in luxury, with the convenience of assisted living available when needed and invisible when not. Dominion Partners has called on HPM for services throughout preconstruction or construction on four Somerby properties. HPM worked with the construction and design team, reviewed change orders and made weekly site visits to assess the quality of work and meet with contractors, representing Dominion Partners’ interests and giving them a voice on the job site.
COMBINING THE PRACTICAL WITH THE SUBLIME
Senior living facilities aren’t like other high-end residential facilities. On the surface, many of the details are the same — hardwood floors, marble countertops, stainless steel appliances. But senior living facilities have to be built with a specific resident in mind. Light switches have to be placed conveniently for a senior citizen with a limited range of motion. Showers need grab bars sturdy enough to hold the resident’s weight but sleek enough not to interrupt the elegant design of the shower. Flooring transitions have to be smooth enough not to catch an unsteady shoe or walker and cause a fall. A stacked washer and dryer have to be low enough that the user can safely reach the controls. HPM kept the unique needs of Somerby residents at top of mind throughout the project and coordinates with the contractor, architect, and designer to make the right choices from the very beginning. While acting as owner’s representatives, HPM also represented the residents and even the residents’ concerned children to make sure the facilities are safe, secure and accessible — and feel like home.
