Meet the Expert: Antonio Fratangelo, Principal, HPM Construction Audit & Advisory Services
What is your role and how would you describe what you do?
I am one of the Principals in HPM’s Construction Audit and Advisory Services Group. Our group focuses on providing our construction clients with guidance on various aspects of the construction process that are often overlooked. From early‑intervention practices, such as construction contract review before an owner and contractor sign an agreement, to assisting with project close‑out through financial audit functions, we provide surgical‑style guidance and problem‑solving depending on our client’s or the project’s specific needs.
I also oversee HPM’s Cost Segregation practice, which is an engineering‑based approach to segregating building components into categories that allow for accelerated depreciation. This is a service that provides financial incentives for our clients that are often untapped.
What’s your day-to-day look like?
My current day‑to‑day differs from a typical day‑to‑day for our group. While I’m currently providing services to one client, a more typical day would include supporting multiple construction projects by reviewing contractual documents, analyzing costs, advising on risk management strategies, and collaborating with project teams to address project‑specific challenges as they arise.
What are you working on now?
I am currently assigned to a role that has focused my attention on one client as a Lead under their Change Management program. This role covers many aspects of construction, including understanding and implementing contractual agreements, ensuring project changes are entitled, managing the overall change process within schedule and cost constraints, and negotiating the best achievable outcomes with various stakeholders.
