Connecting on K-12 Construction in Texas & Georgia: 2025 Education Leaders Summit Recap

December 4, 2025

In 2025, HPM once again brought together K-12 leaders, planners, and industry partners for our annual Education Leaders Summits in Texas and Georgia. Though each event reflected the unique educational landscape of its region, both gatherings shared a common goal: to create space for meaningful conversation, practical learning, and collaboration around the complex operational and capital challenges facing today’s school districts.

Across both summits, leaders engaged in sessions on planning, Construction Manager At Risk best-practices, local legislation, and more —paired with candid dialogue from fellow K-12 leaders and experts in the field.

A Setting Designed for Real Connection

One of the most consistent values of the summits is a smaller, personalized atmosphere for attendees. Rather than large, crowded conferences where attendees rush from room to room, the summits offered uninterrupted time with presenters, peers, and industry experts.

Attendees had the opportunity to:

  • Share district experiences openly
  • Ask questions without the pressure of limited time
  • Compare processes with neighboring and regional districts
  • Build relationships with leaders facing similar challenges
  • Engage in extended discussions on issues that rarely fit into a standard conference format

This more personal setting is designed to help spark conversation that digs beneath the surface, resulting in practical takeaways participants can immediately apply in their districts.

Common Themes Across Both States

Despite differing state dynamics, several themes consistently emerged across sessions and discussions:

Planning and Preparation Remain Cornerstones

Districts continue to navigate shifting demographics, aging facilities, and evolving community expectations. Sessions in both states highlighted how data-driven planning, transparent communication, and thoughtful project packaging can make or break long-term capital success.

Leaders Want to Understand the “Why,” Not Just the “What”

Many attendees expressed that they know the fundamentals of their work—but they value discussions that explain how to prevent issues, what to look for, and how to improve internal processes. Whether discussing pay applications, contract delivery methods, or legislative impacts, sessions are planned to discuss context, clarity, and practical next steps.

Audit and Contract Review Are Rising Priorities

From construction audits to contract language to district-level oversight, attendees emphasized the need for clearer guidance and better tools to protect their districts. These conversations were some of the most engaging across both summits, underscoring how important this topic is becoming nationwide.

Peer Learning Is Incredibly Valuable

Attendees shared how meaningful it was to hear directly from each other. The group discussions, roundtables, and informal exchanges often yielded valuable and relevant insights.

Why These Summits Matter

Attendees from both Texas and Georgia echoed the same sentiment: the summits provide rare access to experts, to each other, and to conversations that move beyond keynote messages into real problem-solving.

“The summits offer a chance to learn industry best practices, but more importantly, an opportunity to exchange ideas and build relationships with other K-12 leaders,” HPM Senior Program Manager Pierre Archaud said.

With smaller group sizes and dedicated time carved out for questions, collaboration, and follow-up, leaders gain a depth of engagement not found at larger gatherings.

They also get extended exposure to industry professionals who bring decades of specialized experience in planning, project management, auditing, legislation, or capital program delivery. That access allows for meaningful back-and-forth discussions tailored to the district’s actual needs.

We look forward to building this momentum as we continue to bring leaders together again next year.
