Artis Johnson

Artis L. Johnson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson Construction Services, a minority-owned construction and program management firm located in downtown Atlanta. He is responsible for the successful and profitable operation of the firm which serves commercial, institutional, and industrial clients throughout Georgia. The firm is comprised of program managers, project managers, engineers, cost engineers and estimators, and administrative personnel. Currently, the firm is a majority or equity partner in projects totaling $165,000,000.

Prior to starting his own firm, Artis served eight years (8) as the Deputy Program Manager for Grady Memorial Hospital Renovation & Expansion Program in Atlanta, Georgia. This project encompassed the renovation and expansion program included 14 buildings, 2.3 million square feet urban teaching hospital. The total project budget was $318,000,000 which at the time was one of the largest capital projects in the Southeast.

The replacement of doors and windows in four multi-family complexes in three separate municipalities to reduce noise pollution from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. $12.9 million

ATL West Parking Deck | Atlanta, Georgia
Responsible for the concrete superstructure and horizontal concrete elements for the 5,000 space seven-level deck which is completely automated and efficient. The parking deck has updated signage communicating the number of available spaces to customers. $64 Million

Central Library Design-Build Renovations | Atlanta, Georgia
Full renovation of a landmark 300,000 square-foot, steel-frame, ten-story building. Complete interior demolition with replacement of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Exterior renovation includes a new entry plaza, loading dock, and the removal of intermittent exterior precast panels with the replacement of windows to introduce more light into the space. $44.2 Million

Zoo Atlanta Grand New View | Atlanta, Georgia
Renovation of the Atlanta Cyclorama building into a grand event space for Zoo Atlanta. Includes new office spaces, terraces, and a commercial kitchen. Construction of a new 21,424 square-foot elephant barn and seven-acre expansion of the African Savanna exhibit. The barn includes living quarters for the elephants and administrative offices for staff members. $41 Million

City Of East Point City Hall | East Point, Georgia
Construction of a 31,704 square-foot, multi-story facility. The project is an Earthcraft light commercial development, and includes space for several City divisions, a multi-purpose City Council Chamber, an additional 2,424 square feet of shell space for future growth, and 30,000 square feet of green space for public gatherings and recreation. $13.8 Million

Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center | Atlanta, Georgia
Design-build of new 62,000 square-foot municipal aquatic center. Targeting LEED® Silver Certification. $24.5 million

Metropolitan Library | Atlanta, Georgia
The 27,000 square-foot ground-up library includes a complete site work package with extensive below-grade detention, brick/stone/curtainwall veneer, and all library equipment and casework. $8.9 Million

Zoo Atlanta Scaly, Slimy, Spectacular! | Atlanta, Georgia
The new 113,000 square-foot reptile and amphibian exhibit, featuring a main reptile complex (15,000 square feet), restroom facilities, amphitheater, Georgia River Pond, and playground. Project also includes complex well feature, interactive indoor venues and state-of-the-art exhibits showcasing the amazing extremes in size, speed, color and behavior that make reptiles and amphibians such compelling animals to observe, study, and protect. The new facility replaced the Zoo’s 51-year-old exhibit. $15.5 million

Automatic People Mover Tunnel Structural Repairs, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport | Atlanta, Georgia
Structural repairs to the Automatic People Mover (APM) tunnel and guideway at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Work hours were limited to night, during times when trains are not in operation and had to meet strict security guidelines. $2.4 Million

Atlanta Braves All-Star Bar & Grill, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport | Atlanta, Georgia
The 1400 square-foot complete demolition and renovation of the space. The new space includes a new kitchen, dining areas, full-service par, banquettes and all new finishes, systems and equipment. Floor finishes include tile to imitate a baseball lace pattern. The restaurant will open in time for the 2013 baseball season. $430K

Southwest Airlines North Cargo Building, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport | Atlanta, Georgia
The 4000 square-foot renovation that included demolition and build-back of restrooms, offices conference and training rooms and shipping area. $404K

Hartsfield Development Program | Atlanta, Georgia
The major elements of the HDP include 1. A New Fifth (9,000 feet) Runway, 2. The expansion of Concourse E into a new international terminal, known as Concourse E Expansion and Landside Access (Accessed from Interstate 75), 3. Major expansions and renovations to the main terminal complex and existing concourses, known as the Central Passenger Transportation Complex (CPTC), 4. A new Consolidated Rental Car (CONRAC) Facility which includes an Automated People Mover system over Interstate 85, and 5. A new Domestic South Terminal Complex. Completion $5.4 Billion
